Best Locations for Engagement Photos in Edmonton

I'm not here to gatekeep. Period. I've explored every corner of our city and these are my favourite spots for engagement photos!

As an Edmonton engagement photographer, I love helping couples choose locations that reflect their personalities. Here are three of my all-time favourite spots for engagement photos in Edmonton: each one with its own unique charm.

A couple lies on a grassy lawn near a brick building in a romantic outdoor photoshoot.

A panoramic sequence of people walking through a lush green meadow under a cloudy summer sky at sunset.

I. Old Arts Building - University of Alberta

This charming building never disappoints. Nestled in the centre of Edmonton is the University of Alberta's Old Arts Building, which is the closest thing we have to a modern day Hogwarts. Its ivy-covered brick walls, arched doorways, and vintage feel, make the perfect backdrop for dreamy engagement photos.

Best time to shoot: late afternoon for warm, soft light

Vibe: European, timeless, romantic

Pro tip: neutral tones look STUNNING against the historic brick

This location is perfect for couples who love elegance and want their engagement photos to feel timeless and editorial.

2. Whitemud Park – Romantic Forest Escape

If you're nature lovers, Whitemud Park is THE place to be. The wildlife are friendly, there's lush forest trails, wooden bridges, and peaceful river views. The best part? It's in the middle of the city. Summer and fall sessions are my favourite because of how vibrant and romantic the colours are.

Best time to shoot: Golden hour or early morning (soft light through the trees)

Vibe: Organic, adventure, and natural

Pro tip: Bring comfortable shoes (think blunnies!) for walking between spots, there are so many hidden gems just off the main path

A couple embraces outdoors surrounded by golden autumn foliage and sunlight filtering through trees.

3. Terwillegar Park – Open Fields & River Views

This park in the southwest end of Edmonton has to be one of my top favourite locations for photoshoots! The wide-open fields, tall grass, wildflowers, and views of the North Saskatchewan River is the perfect location for that cinematic outdoorsy feel.

Best time to shoot: Truly... anytime. I recommend weekdays because it's a busy spot.

Vibe: Outdoorsy, fun, dreamy

Pro tip: If you're afraid of dogs, this isn't the park for you. Try Whitemud (see above) instead!

This is one of my go-to spots for couples who love a little adventure and want a location that feels both wild and romantic.

Scenic panoramic view of a winding river through green countryside with people walking along the grassy banks.
